When is a familiar too 'familiar'? (for [personal profile] alexandra_lightwood)

Just because people knew who you were, didn't mean you wanted to talk to them. Magna made it a practice never to be seen when she walked through the walls in search of her lady's rooms. Evaporating and moving from place to place became a bit of a game, as did walking without making a sound. Not even the long train that dragged the floor from her corseted coat dared make a sound as it whispered over the hard stone.

Sleek tight leather hugged her legs making it easy to move in spite of the almost dress like top. Even the hat on her head covering one peaked ear didn't rustle with her movements. After all, if the queen knew of a familiar being too familiar Magna would likely cease to exist.

Flicking the end of her long silken tail, he looped lazily about her waist as she ducked out of the way of passing servants. Reflecting almost glowing golden feline eyes followed their travel until they disappeared around the corner... only then did she grin baring sharp feline teeth that lingered even as she faded from view.

Reappearing, she perched on the back of a chaise lounge in the room and let her tail unwind to swish slowly through the air. The pointed ear not hidden under the top hat flicked and turned as she listened for her lady even as she looked about searching for the woman she'd chosen herself to die and live for.

There were some days when Alec hated being a Lightwood. With the name came certain expectations. Once, her family might have been heroes, but now it was dark magic that held their reputation. Her mother was the greatest evil sorceress of her generation, crafting the poisoned apples that had become so famous in the tale of Snow White.

That had been because of jealousy, her father's infidelity... At least that's what Isabelle had told her and Alec had no reason to doubt that it was true.

And since her mother wielded so much power, it was assumed her eldest daughter would have the same magical skills.

Perhaps if Alec wanted to be evil, she might excel at her studies but it was white magic that interested her, causing all her attempts at dark sorcery failing miserably. Which only seemed to make her mother more determined.

This time her resolve took a new form. If Alec couldn't perform spells like a proper Lightwood, then she could dress the part. Before Alec knew what hit her, she was shoved into a black gown that dripped with lace... completely impractical and ridiculous looking on her but it was the type of thing that a sorceress would wear.

Gritting her teeth through the party her parents had thrown, she finally made her escape, almost running through the hallways to hide in her room. Shutting the door behind her, she wove a spell into the lock, knowing that it would keep most people away... she hoped.

Turning away from the door, she almost let out a yelp when she noticed bright gold eyes staring at her, her surprise turning to worry instantly. "Magnus! What are you doing here? What if someone sees you?"
