Something inside flared in warmth as her senses registered little things. The way he pulled her closer and the gentle hand in her hair. Her memory remembered pain in such touches, not tenderness. And when her vision cleared, the sight of concerned blue eyes set her back.
Customarily she laughed at poetry and love songs. They meant nothing to her. But there was a line from some sappy poem somewhere that mentioned something about drowning in someone's eyes. A thought that made her roll her eyes on a good day. And where she found blue eyes and dark hair attractive, this was the first time she knew what it was like to 'drown' in someone's eyes.
Blinking a few times, she drew in a deep breath and gave a bare nod. She didn't feel as heavy now. The lead seemed to be removed from her limbs so it didn't feel like she dragged her body to move. Her lashes lowered slightly before speaking softly. "I'm glad you're okay."
Her fingers barely brushed his neck as she closed her eyes. "Sometimes... memories make the worst dreams." Curling her hand softly about that spot where neck met shoulder, she just wanted to feel his pulse and make sure he was alive. "Are you okay?"
