Part of Alec couldn't comprehend what was going on around him. He'd been separated from his parabatai and captured by the monster that had killed his little brother. A monster who seemed to think himself better than the Shadowhunters even though he was part demon who thrived on others' pain. He kept waiting for Jace to find him, yet his parabatai never rescued him.
He'd been tortured physically and mentally until the only things that kept him sane was the steadily fading hope that Jace would find him and the strange girl who kept visiting him, trying to heal him whenever Sebastian grew bored with him. Sometimes he wondered why she bothered. Was she keeping him alive so that her master would have more time to play with him? Or was it something else...
Each day seemed to get worse no matter what she did until Sebastian had decided to escalate the torture in a way Alec hadn't expected considering how Sebastian constantly called him an abomination. He'd fought as much as he could, acting more like a trapped animal than a nephilim until the girl had offered herself to Sebastian to keep the man away from Alec.
As soon as he realized what she'd done, Alec tried to stop her, but Sebastian seemed to think this was another way to break him, dragging the girl off to do who knew what to her. Forced back into the shackles, he'd waited for Sebastian to return, dazed from pain and guilt until the girl returned.
A strange pulse of magic washed over the room and the cuffs unlocked. Blinking at her, he couldn't quite understand what was going on. She had helped him before, but she was still Sebastian's servant. Why would she help him escape?
Swallowing thickly, he ignored the pain from old and new wounds and shook his head. "I can run." His voice sounded broken, but the words could be understood. "'M Nephilim. Different than mundanes." Even if he wasn't, he'd crawl if he had to if it meant getting away.
